#socialmedia you say?

"If you find yourself in a comfort zone, you're probably parked illegally."

I’ve been seeing way too many of these bash Microsoft articles lately. I mean, these things are just nonsense. And rumors of MSFT’s death have been greatly exaggerated since the 1990s.
Yes I know they’re barely the shadow of what they used to be. I know they’ve become less relevant (heck, for the first time in my life I just scored a new laptop without any Office crap on it).
But I think they make way too easy a target lately. And I hate cheap shots. Truth be told, I have a special place in my heart for Microsoft. Why? Because I grew up with it professionally in my programming days. And made a mint living using their products and technologies for 20 years. Microsoft buttered my bread for decades. And helped me build a whole boatload of great products and services.
So yes, it’s easy to knock them. But you go out and build a similar company, Wired. And provide gainful employment for masses of people in the process. And real business value. Good luck with all that.
Truth be told, they’ve become so “underdogged” lately, it’s almost tempting to want to go there and help save the ship. For old times’ sake. Because that’s got to be a Sisyphean task.
Imagine having a part in restoring old Microsoft glory…Hey Steve, step aside and let some new blood in would ya? :)
